Climbing is a fantastic activity for teenagers. It’s exciting, social, and develops good balance, coordination and strength. This page will help teenagers and parents understand our rules and systems, so you can get the most out of the centre.
Bouldering is an exciting and dynamic activity, but it comes with important safety responsibilities. To ensure everyone stays safe, we all need to follow a few essential rules. These guidelines apply to climbing centres across the country and are in place to protect everyone’s enjoyment and well-being.
Teenagers aged 11+ can be supervised by an experienced adult (e.g. friend/family member).
They can also attend a supervised session with a Highball Instructor. They will need written consent from a parent/guardian (provided via the ‘Supervised‘ registration form) before taking part.
A teenaged climber does not need their parents/guardians to be present in the centre during the session.
Teens can register for unsupervised bouldering once they consistently show the behaviours we expect from an unsupervised boulderer.
Teenagers aged 14+ must first complete an Intro to Bouldering course to access the centre independently.
After demonstrating a clear understanding of indoor bouldering risks and consistent safe climbing practices, the boulderer’s guardian will be invited to sign them off during a briefing session.
Teenagers aged 16 and 17 can join any of our adult courses, where they’ll learn the skills to climb independently and without supervision.
We have a set of minimum requirements we expect from all climbers that want to access our centre unsupervised. To be considered you must meet all of the below requirements.
