Our first Flash Social Comp is taking place in October, and I’m here to tell you a little bit more about what to expect on Friday 10th!
Some of our long-time customers might remember our ‘Nukids’ events back in the day, but if not, these were Highball’s more casual competition evenings, with plenty of low to mid-grade climbs, aimed at introducing people to climbing competitions.
If you don’t want to climb, then you’re still more than welcome to come along (entry is free for non-climbers) and spectate, perhaps with a slice of pizza and a cold beer in hand!
So, what should you expect from our Flash Social Comp evening?
First thing’s first, checking into the centre.
On entry you’ll be given a wristband, a raffle ticket, and most importantly, a QR code that will take you to the online score card that you’ll need in order to record your progress.
Now, once you’re in the centre, you’ll need to look out for orange climbs. There will be 30 of these climbs dotted around the centre, all of which will be numbered from 1-30. Those numbers will correspond to the numbers on the score card, so if you climb orange no.20, you’ll need to scroll down the score card to find no.20 – easy peasy!
If you have any concerns about the score sheet, or how to record your attempts – we’ll have a video on our Instagram page that talks you through it, so give that a watch or ask at reception and we’ll help you out!
Once it gets to 9.30, when everyone has completed their score cards, we’ll bring out the all-important podium and announce the top three climbers across each category.
Food, drink – and all that good stuff
Throughout the evening we’ll have music, hot food and our cafe/bar up and running, so if social competitions aren’t your thing, feel free to come down anyway for a bite to eat!
So, that’s what you’ve got to expect for our Flash Social Comp! Make sure you come down and get involved, especially if you haven’t participated in a competition here before. This is our beginner friendly, zero pressure competition – you don’t even necessarily need to hand your scores in at the end – you can take it as seriously, or un-seriously as you’d wish.
