We’re excited to announce that we’ll be hosting another Christmas climbing competition here at Highball on Friday 27th December! This year, to celebrate our last Christmas here before we move to Whiffler Road, we’ve decided to make sure this Comp will be bigger and better than ever!
The competition will take place over the whole day, starting when we open at 10am, and coming to a close at 5pm, from which point we’ll all come together to announce the lucky raffle winners, and declare the highest scoring climbers of the day. There will be cash prizes up for grabs for the first, second and third place male and female climbers. We’ll release more information on scoring later on, but for now all you need to know is that scoring will be point based, so if you flash the climb (get it first try) then you’ll earn the maximum points, but if it takes you two or three attempts the points will be a little lower.
We’re not having finals for this one, because we’ve decided to focus more on the community side (and obviously the party side!) this year as we celebrate our last Christmas at our Twickenham Road centre. Entry will be £3 + general admission, and regular supervision rules apply. If you don’t fancy entering, don’t worry, spectators are more than welcome to join in the festivities, and we’ll still be open for general climbing too. In terms of food and drink, we’ve got you covered! Our fantastic kitchen team will have some festive bits and pieces for you to enjoy before, during or after your climb – as well as a fully stocked beer fridge!
So, what makes this year bigger and better? A frankly excessive amount of competition style climbs for you guys to sink your teeth into! Additionally, our regular in-house setters; Guy, Gilby, Ollie and Jude will be joined by external routesetter Ella Gilbert for this competition! We’re all super excited that Ella is returning to Highball this year for our winter celebrations. As an original Highball-er, it’s always great to have Ella back in Norwich, and we’re all psyched to see what she’ll bring to this year’s comp!
These guys will work tirelessly to take over the whole Comp Wall with over 40 blocs for this mega competition set. Routes will cover a whole range of grades, so whether this Christmas will be your first time taking part, or whether you’re an old hand at climbing comps, we guarantee that you’ll have plenty of routes for you to push yourself with.
