Ready to try something new?

LEARN TO CLIMB

If you’re new to climbing, the best and simplest way to get started is to book one of our introductory courses below. Once you’ve completed the course you should feel confident and ready to climb independently (without supervision), so you can come back to enjoy the centre at your own pace.

Our courses are designed for absolute beginners and anybody needing a refresh. Our friendly team of instructors and coaches have years of experience, teaching people of all abilities so you’re in safe hands! You can book on your own or why not ‘rope’ a friend in too (you can book together or separately, as long as you choose the same time slot).

Our Guarantee:

“If you don’t feel confident, competent, and ready to climb independently after attending one of our intro courses, your next session is on us”

If you’re looking to book for a child under 14, please see our Kids Climbing Page

Newbies can also be supervised by an experienced friend or family member. If you know an experienced climber, check out our rules found on the Supervision Page.

Intro to Bouldering

What it is:  Most people book on the Intro to Bouldering course. It’s a single session that covers all the basics of bouldering, as well as how to be safe on the wall and walking around the centre so you can climb independently.

(Please note, under 18’s will need a parent/guardian present to counter sign their forms before and after the session.)

When is it: Weekdays & weekends

Who’s it for: Individuals aged 14+

Duration: 1 hour + optional independent climbing afterwards

Price: £20 per person

Private Session

What it is:  If you’re in a group of friends or family, we recommend the Private Taster Sessions. They give you your own instructor who can teach you bouldering, climbing or a bit of both for anybody aged 6 or over. The sessions can be tailored to your level and your interests. Prices for Private Taster Sessions are the total cost for the group.

When is it: Weekdays & weekends

Who’s it for: Individuals or groups aged 6+

Duration: 1 hour

Price: £45 – £75 per group

Womens Intro to Bouldering

What it is: This session is the same as our Intro to Bouldering but just for women. It’s a single session that covers all the basics of bouldering, as well as how to be safe on the wall and walking around the centre so you can climb independently. It does not teach you how to use our roped walls. See our ‘Intro to climbing’ if this is what you are looking for.

(Please note, under 18’s will need a parent/guardian present to counter sign their forms before and after the session.)

When is it: Monthly before the women’s social evening

Who’s it for: Women aged 14+

Duration: 1 hour + optional particiapation in womens social coaching afterwards

Price: £15

What should I bring with me?

Make sure you wear clothes you’re comfortable to move around in and definitely bring layers if it’s cold outside – we’re in an unheated warehouse! No need to bring any equipment – you can hire everything you need at no extra cost for these intro courses.

If you’re looking for a pick-me-up, our café sells great coffee, a selection of teas and a range of tasty baked goods. You’re more than welcome to bring your own snacks, too.

  • I arranged a private introductory session with Mark for my family.
Absolutely awesome is all I can say from start to finish.
With no experience, he was very patient with us and and after an hour he had us climbing all sorts.
Well worth the money and highly recommended.
Thank you Mark and Highball Climbing.

  • Awesome climbing centre on an industrial estate near the airport. Huge bouldering for all levels from beginner to expert, suitable for all ages, and a roped climbing area too. They have a great gym and conditioning area. A fantastic café serving very good coffee, and a range of tea’s and soft drinks. Lovely cakes, and snacks. Pizza nights on occasion with a wood fired pizza oven, and curry nights. Well stocked climbing shop. They also have a fantastic, dedicated and passionate staff team, always friendly and happy to help no matter your level or ability. Highly recommended.

  • The vibes of highball are always great, and it is impossible to find someone that isn’t really nice. The staff are friendly and always happy to help, whatever you need. The café serves great food and drink for whenever you want, with a wide range of refreshments. The walls themselves have amazing problems to properly test your limits, and are re-newed regularly, so you can never run out of climbs to try!

  • Always a great atmosphere at Highball. I’ve been bouldering here quite a few times with my partner and various friends and it doesn’t seem to matter what skill level you are, everyone is friendly, helpful and courteous… Also leave your snacks at home – the cakes, brownies, cookies and vegan burritos they sell are all exactly what you’ll want when you’re finished!
